About Cirrus Identity

Cirrus Identity was founded in 2013 by a software developer and the business manager of the “CalNet'' team, the University of California Berkeley’s Identity and Access Management program. Even as the Cirrus team has grown over the past 10 years, it has maintained its roots in the Research and Education community. Our engineering and customer support teams all have extensive experience in identity management on campuses like Stanford, Duke, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin, and more.

A main goal of Cirrus Identity is to further the mission of higher education to expand knowledge. We serve universities, non-profits, research organizations, healthcare institutions and more to help them further scholarship by supporting collaboration among global experts.

The research and education community relies heavily on multilateral federation, a trust framework built of national and international trust federations like InCommon and eduGAIN. Most commercial identity solutions do not support multilateral federation, and Cirrus solves that problem.

Cirrus Identity enables Zero Trust in higher ed through a suite of Cirrus Works solutions. Campuses can choose a single service, like our Bridge, to connect a commercial identity provider to a federation or to a CAS-authenticated application. Or customers can choose a bundle of options from the Cirrus Works suite to provide SSO for enterprise users, and login via third party external provider (Google, LinkedIn, etc) for applicants, alumni, parents, continuing ed students and more. We offer a hosted guest account solution, MFA add-ons, account linking and sponsored invitation flows.

Best of all, Cirrus actively participates in Research and Education workgroups, standards-writing committees, and governing bodies. As technology standards and implementation patterns in this community change, Cirrus will continue to evolve our product offering to support education and research collaboration needs.
